Vote Marie Smith For Golden Jubilee Volunteer Awards

Kingscourt’s Marie Smith has been nominated for the Aldi Community Games ‘Golden Jubilee’ Volunteer Award.  Marie has been involved in the Community Games family for the past 44 years and has worked to promote the Community Games since 1970.  Kingscourt Community Games Group was established in 1973 and Marie was the Local Area Secretary and Chief Organiser from then until 2009.  Marie also held the position of Area Treasurer and was the official Kingscourt Area delegate for 30 years.  Every year Marie organised the area competitions and made sure they were run efficiently.  Marie first became involved at County level in 1978 and in her years of service at County level she has held many positions – Team Manager, County Security Manager, County Manager, County Athletic Secretary, and has been Cavan County Treasurer for the past 20 years.  Marie as a sponsor of a Community Employment Project facilitated administration along with the safe storage and maintenance of the equipment and track-suits etc.  At Provincial level Marie has been the County delegate to Ulster for many years and is the current County NEAC delegate.  Also nationally Marie has served on the National Security & Finance Committees.

Throughout her years of service Marie never missed the annual double weekend competitions and Skills weekends in Mosney and more recently Athlone.  Many of us, or our loved ones, have fond memories of participating in the Community Games and indeed fond memories of Marie’s involvement and presence in all stages of the process.

Help Marie win this well deserved award by clicking on the following link  http://www.independent.ie/goldenvolunteer/  It only takes a few seconds and will help show how much we really appreciate her dedicated service to our community throughout the decades.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on March 18th and will be presented with a holiday prize sponsored by The Irish Independent.  Voting lines close at midnight on 13/03/17.  Your support is most appreciated.

St Patrick’s Day Parade 2017

St. Patrick’s Day is quickly approaching and we are proud to say that our annual parade is enjoyed by both our community and visitors from further afield. 🍀 Kingscourt Community Development Association would greatly appreciate if your company or club would consider displaying a float in our annual parade. 🇮🇪 As always novelty items/colourful exhibits/floats are particularly welcome to help create a carnival atmosphere.  There are a variety of awards for parade participants under the following categories ‘Best Industrial Float’, ‘Best Business Float’, ‘Best Club/Organisation’ and ‘Best Novelty Act’. 🍀 Prizes are also presented for ‘Best Shop Window’ which will be judged on the morning of the parade.  The theme of this year’s ‘Best Shop Window’ display is ‘1947’. 🇮🇪 The parade will commence from the Dublin Road at 1.00pm sharp.  The KCDA would ask all exhibitors to inform them if you wish to participate in the parade.  You can contact KCDA by email sec.kcda@gmail.com, phone/fax 042 9667241 or visit www.kcda.ie.
